ㅤPastㅤ It is unknown exactly where qestra is from. the only piece of information she tends to share is that she's from the Skatay mountain range between dalmasca and othard, but one may even wonder if that is correct. what is known for sure is that she spent many years in kugane, starting her time there working in a tea shop while her twin sister, kyna, went off adventuring. while making ends meet was difficult, she managed to keep a small home for them near the rakuza district. Eventually, her sister returned after being away for two years, this time with a man in tow. A garlean defector by the name of Aenor kir Gravius. deciding that this was the best path for both of them, qes' twin sister pushed her into marrying this garlean fellow - mainly to get funds for them to make it to eorzea and beyond.after getting the funds and departing for eorzea, aenor was disowned by his family, and the abuse began. Originally occuring while Kyna was away, qes was subjected to beatings and verbal abuse for even the smallest things. from not wearing a hair decoration aenor approved of to trying to leave the house on her own without his consent, it got worse and worse. after months of this, her twin finally returned from her adventuring, though it made little difference, eventually reaching a point where chemicals were dumped on the left half of qestra's body, burning her and leaving discoloration and scars. and all Kyna did was laugh and say "better you than me."Upon the words leaving kyna's lips, qestra realized how truly alone she was.a few days later, qestra returned home from the market, only to see kyna on the floor, now being subjected to the abuse she had been dealing with. her first instinct was to help, as it always had been in the past. But recalling the words from previous days, qes stopped herself. why make an effort to save someone who would let you die if that's what allowed her to keep adventuring. and thus, Qestra grabbed a knife and stabbed her twin in the stomach, twisting and pushing it upwards into her heart. "better you than me..." is all qestra said as she pulled the blade out, watching the light fade from Kyna's eyes.a sword impaled qestra through the abdomen from behind. she fell to her knees, looking back to see aenor standing over her. He said things, but she couldn't hear them over the sound of her own heart beating in her ears. despite the pain, or perhaps because of it, she turned to stab upwards through his jaw, then again through his shoulder. again. and again. and again. until he fell onto the floor in a bloody heap. And so did she.Qestra awoke many days later, having somehow survived the encounter. the authorities that were called upon them being found had placed all the blame on aenor, since evidence was found that he was conspiring to go back to garlemald with information on the inner workings of the major cities of eorzea. a fitting end, leaving her free to do as she wished. Though the question remained - how did she survive. A look in the mirror revealed the truth, as her eyes now faintly glowed. a small smile appeared."I guess you saved me, even though you didn't want to, hm, Kyna?"Upon her release, qestra made it a point to explore the world she hadn't been allowed to see much of. Over time, the mask of smiling and positivity took form as she looked towards new horizons. Loving to tinker with things, she eventually picked up engineering, studying allagan and magitek ones in particular - the latter because she had learned some things from her late husband about it. Publishing three different thesis topics in sharlayan during a brief stint there, she continues her work to this day.In her travels, she came to become close with another viera named vivian. after knowing each other for many years, they adopted each other as sisters, finally having a sibling that actually cares about them.

ㅤcurrentㅤ In more recent days, Qes has returned to her love of research, enjoying her time assisting others. She currently accepts commissions from a variety of people, and lives in Shirogane with her adopted younger sister, Vivian.Her current projects include assisting vivian with reproducing flora from before the calamity in coerthas via a greenhouse and the lone giant from Thanalan. she is also making a safer way for her sister to acquire plant seeds from more dangerous areas.Aside from all her present projects, Qes has been enjoying spending time with others close to her.
